Getting Started

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Beginner Guide

Mirror's Edge Catalyst puts you in the shoes of Faith Connors, a runner navigating the corporate-controlled city of Glass. This beginner guide walks you through the essential movement mechanics, combat basics, and the opening story beats so you can build momentum and traverse the rooftops with confidence.

1

Learn the Core Movement Controls

Use L2/LT (or the left mouse button) to trigger jumps and climbs, and L2 + Circle/B to slide under obstacles. Directional input on the left stick plus your jump button covers most interactions: wall-runs, vaults, and mantling ledges. Momentum is everything — keep moving forward to chain actions smoothly.

2

Understand Momentum and Flow

Flow is Faith's state of continuous, unbroken movement. Chaining moves without stopping fills your Flow, letting you jump farther and reach otherwise inaccessible ledges. Stopping, bumping into walls, or falling breaks Flow — plan your route a few moves ahead using Runner Vision, the red objects highlighting the suggested path.

3

Manage Your Stamina in Combat

Attacking and taking hits drains Faith's stamina bar. Direct frontal attacks on alert enemies will be blocked — instead, strike from behind or after a successful evade to land a Tranquilizer hit. When stamina is low, disengage and let it regenerate before re-engaging.

4

React to Enemy Attack Indicators

When an enemy flashes, they are about to attack. Press Circle/B (evade) at the right moment to dodge; a well-timed evade right before the strike lets you counter instantly. In group fights, keep circling so enemies cluster in front of you rather than surrounding Faith.

5

Follow the First Story Beats

The opening chapter, 'Prison Break,' introduces basic traversal and combat as Faith escapes the Kruger Holding Facility. Follow Runner Vision through the tutorial sequences, then complete 'Sprint' and the early delivery missions in the Anchor district to unlock side activities, time trials, and free-roam delivery runs across Glass.

Quick Tips

  • Keep moving — standing still breaks Flow faster than any enemy.
  • Runner Vision marks red objects as suggestions, not requirements; better routes exist once you learn the rooftops.
  • Slide under most obstacles instead of jumping — sliding preserves speed and keeps your momentum alive.
  • Strike from behind or right after an evade; frontal attacks on alert guards get blocked.

Full Story Campaign

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Complete Walkthrough

Faith's journey through the city of Glass spans the main story chapters, from her escape out of Kruger custody to the final confrontation atop the Shard. This walkthrough covers each main mission's objectives, recommended routes, and boss encounter strategies so you can finish the story without losing momentum.

Chapter 1: Prison Break

Escape the Kruger Holding Facility. Learn basic jumps, climbs, and wall-runs in the tutorial sections, then take down the first guards to trigger Faith's release. Follow Runner Vision through the vent systems and rooftops to reach the hideout and meet Icarus, Nomad, and Plastridge.

Chapter 2: Sprint / Early Anchor Missions

Complete training runs with Icarus at the Runner's Hideout, then carry out early missions in the Anchor district. Learn to use the Mag Rope for the first time to grapple across gaps, and unlock fast-travel points and side activities as Glass opens up for free roaming.

Chapter 3–4: The Beatrice Case & Rebecca Thane

Investigate the stolen data drive, meet the Black November leader Rebecca Thane in the Undermine, and deliver parcels while dodging Kruger Security (KrugerSec) patrols. These missions introduce heavier combat encounters with shielded and armored guards — use evades and Tranquilizer hits from behind.

Chapter 5–6: The Kruger Data & The Shard Approach

Infiltrate the Kruger tower complex using the Mag Rope and new traversal routes. Stealth sections reward staying off the ground and out of KrugerSec sightlines — climbing high and using maintenance shafts keeps Flow unbroken. Save Noah and uncover the truth behind the Reflection project.

Chapter 7–8: Gabriel Kruger Chase & Finale

The final missions feature the signature Gabriel Kruger helicopter chase across the rooftops of the View District — keep your line clean, wall-run the marked surfaces, and never hesitate at edges. The finale atop the Shard mixes timed climbing sequences with a last combat gauntlet; maintain full Flow and strike guards as they flash to close out the story.

100% Completion

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Collectibles Guide

Glass hides hundreds of collectibles across its districts. GridLeaks must be destroyed mid-run, while Documents, Chipsets, and Gift Bags reward exploration and side missions. Collecting Chipsets is also how you unlock Upgrade Chips for Faith's skill tree, so grab them early.

In-World Collectible

GridLeak Interference Sources

Scattered electronic devices that Faith must run through and smash to stop the GridLeak interference. They flash visibly from a distance and often sit along parkour routes — destroying all of them in a district counts toward that district's completion percentage.

Across all districts of Glass, typically on rooftops, billboards, and mid-run parkour lines.
Lore Collectible

Hidden Documents

Story documents and personal records that expand the lore of Glass, Kruger Security, and the runner network. Each document you pick up is added to your story log for later reading.

Inside offices, maintenance rooms, and hideouts — check interiors and hidden alcoves during main and side missions.
Progression Collectible

Chipsets

Electronic components spent on Upgrade Chips in Faith's skill tree (Traversal, Combat, and Gear branches). Earning high star ratings in Dashes and Time Trials also rewards Chipsets, making side activities a fast route to a fully upgraded Faith.

At hard-to-reach parkour spots, plus rewards for completing Dashes, Billboards, and Security Zone events.
Hidden Collectible

Runner Bags (Gift Bags)

Hidden courier bags left behind by other runners. Finding them contributes to district completion and the overall 100% collection stat alongside GridLeaks, Documents, and Chipsets.

On rooftops and inside buildings off the main path — unlock the district map upgrades to reveal nearby collectible markers.

Skill Tree & Builds

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Best Skill Upgrades

Faith's abilities are expanded through Upgrade Chips, which are purchased with Chipsets earned from exploration and side activities. The skill tree has three branches — Traversal, Combat, and Gear — and early choices noticeably change how the game feels. This tier list breaks down the best unlock priorities.

S

Unlock First

Quick Turn (Traversal)

Lets Faith perform a fast 180-degree turn, essential for redirecting momentum mid-run during chases and time trials.

Mag Rope Enhancements (Gear)

Upgrades to the Mag Rope extend its reach and enable new swing points, opening shortcuts across the districts — a huge mobility multiplier early on.

Fast Climb (Traversal)

Speeds up ledge mantling so climbs don't break your Flow; one of the most used traversal upgrades in the whole game.

A

Unlock Next

Skill Roll (Traversal)

Reduces fall damage recovery and keeps movement fluid when dropping from height, saving runs in combat escapes.

Combat Enhancements (Combat)

Improves Faith's strike speed and Tranquilizer takedowns, making mandatory fight sections much faster and safer.

Runner Vision Upgrades (Gear)

Refines Runner Vision cues so the suggested path shows up more clearly — great for players still learning Glass's rooftops.

B

Unlock Later

Advanced Combat Counters (Combat)

Extends the evade-counter window against heavier guards; useful in the late-game Kruger Security encounters but optional if you avoid fights.

Exploration Markers (Gear)

Map upgrades that reveal nearby collectibles and side activities — grab these when you start chasing 100% completion.

Completionist

Combat Mastery

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Combat Guide

Faith doesn't use guns — combat in Catalyst is built around momentum, timing, and movement. Attacks only deal full damage when chained from running, wall-runs, and vaults, so the best fighters in Glass never stop moving. This guide breaks down the core mechanics, each enemy archetype, and how to weave knockouts into your runs.

Speedrunning

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Time Trials & Runner Tags

Beyond the story, Catalyst's endgame is pure speed: Time Trials with developer-crafted star targets, and Dashes — player-created routes marked with Runner Tags throughout the city. Every run is scored and posted to online leaderboards, letting you compete against friends and the world. These cards summarize each mode and route strategy by district.

Mode

Time Trials

Fixed courses across Glass with 1–3 star time targets. Earning stars unlocks additional trials. Learn the intended line first, then shave seconds with coil jumps and wall-run chains.

Mode

Dashes & Runner Tags

Player-created routes starting from Runner Tags placed in the open world. Race ghost lines of other players and beat the target time to earn stars. Thousands of community routes cover every district.

District

Downtown Routes

Dense rooftops and tight stair sets favor slide-jump chains and quick 90° wall-run turns. Avoid dropping to street level — vertical momentum is faster than re-climbing.

District

Anchor District Routes

Long glass facades reward extended wall-runs. Use the MAG Rope to swing across gaps and maintain speed between buildings rather than jumping and losing height.

Tips

Leaderboard Strategy

Study ghost replays of top runners, exploit ziplines and launch pads, and route through traversal upgrades like the quick turn. Consistency beats risky shortcuts — a clean line with no flow breaks usually beats one flashy jump.

Lore

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Story & Characters

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a rebooted origin story for Faith Connors, a Runner in the glass city of Glass — a gleaming metropolis controlled by the Conglomerate. Runners are the last uncensored couriers, moving across rooftops away from the surveillance grid. These cards introduce the key figures and factions driving the main story, and how the game connects to the 2008 original.

Protagonist

Faith Connors

The protagonist. Fresh out of juvenile detention, Faith returns to Glass and rejoins the Runners under Noah's guidance. Her journey from reckless courier to the symbol of resistance drives the entire campaign.

Mentor

Noah Kekai

Faith's mentor and the veteran leader of the Runner cabal. He keeps the crew independent from Black November and pays a heavy price for protecting Faith from Kruger's forces.

Runner

Icarus

A young, headstrong Runner who initially clashes with Faith's attitude. Over the story he grows into one of her most reliable allies within the cabal.

Antagonist

Gabriel Kruger

Head of Kruger Security (K-Sec) and the Conglomerate's iron hand in Glass. His family history is deeply entangled with Faith's own past, including the death of her parents during the November Riots.

Antagonist

Isabel Kruger

Gabriel Kruger's daughter, connected to the Reflection project at the heart of the plot — a plan tied to Faith's own family secrets and the corporate control of the city.

Setting

The City of Glass

A pristine, white-and-glass corporate utopia built on total surveillance. Citizens live comfortable but controlled lives; the Runners' rooftop network is the only free path left. The game reimagines the setting of the 2008 original as Faith's origin story.

Every story beat ties back to Faith's rise — follow the walkthrough above to see it unfold chapter by chapter.
